A Call for Unity
Edo Matter is a music production project that brings Edo women artists together to record and perform the song “Edo Matter” as a powerful call for peace, harmony, and unity across Edo State.
The production centers on peace reigning among communities, political, royal, families, and generations, with culture and creativity thriving as a centerpiece.
Led by visionary cultural ambassador Sonia Aimy, the initiative intentionally amplifies women’s voices in a cultural landscape traditionally dominated by men, highlighting how female artistry can reinforce Edo heritage while addressing contemporary realities.

Sonia Aimy
Sonia Oduwa Aimiuwu shimmers in Afro-jazz, Afrobeat, highlife, and griot traditions. Nigerian-born, Italian-trained, and Canadian-based, she is a singer, actress, producer, and activist who champions cultural diplomacy and women’s empowerment.
Her 2024 album Light-Imole deepens spirituality and Earth-connected resilience, following the lockdown reflections of Reconnect (2021). Her award-winning film TRACE: Tracing African Canadian Extraordinaire (2023) honors African Canadian leaders and has won over 100 awards globally.
A true global citizen, Sonia starred as the first Black Cinderella with Turin’s National Theatre in Italy and has collaborated with legends such as Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, and William Parker. She is the founder of African Women Acting (AWA) Canada and Owner/CEO of Saimy’s Art.
